Thrashers get Ladd from Blackhawks

07/01/2010 - Atlanta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Atlanta Thrashers acquired forward Andrew Ladd from the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy and a second-round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Ladd had spent the last two-plus seasons in Chicago after coming over in a trade with Carolina during the 2007-08 campaign. He had 17 goals and 21 assists in 82 regular-season games for the Blackhawks in 2009-10. Ladd also added three goals and three assists in 19 playoff games for the Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks this spring.

The 24-year-old winger has recorded 63 goals and 149 points in 321 career games with the Hurricanes and Blackhawks. Ladd also helped Carolina win a Stanley Cup title in 2006 and he has 15 points (8G, 7A) in 53 career playoff tilts.

"We're pleased to add another power forward with size, skill and two Stanley Cup championships to our roster," said Thrashers general manager Rick Dudley. "At 24, Andrew has already been in the league for five years and is only getting better. He will add an element of grit, determination and skill to our group of forwards that will compliment what we have in place."

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks receive Vishnevskiy, a 22-year-old Russian blueliner with just five games of NHL experience under his belt. The Thrashers had acquired Vishnevskiy in the trade that sent goaltender Kari Lehtonen to Dallas during the 2009-10 season.

With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.
