Leafs ship Ponikarovsky to Pittsburgh

Ponikarovsky, a native of Ukraine, is set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and is making $2.5 million. He has racked up 19 goals and 22 assists in 61 games for the Leafs, who sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 49 points after a 5-1 home defeat to Carolina.

Skoula posted three goals and five assists in 33 games for the Pens in sparse duty this year, his 10th NHL campaign. He is also scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent.

Caputi, 21, has a goal and one assist in four games during a brief call-up prior to the Olympic break.
